MACHILIPATNAM: V. Rajesh, a government teacher who allegedly sexually assaulted a class X girl in the classroom in the Zilla Parishad High School at Laxmipuram village in Kruthivennu mandal in Krishna district on January 29, is on the run.

The Kruthivennu police registered a case against Mr. Rajesh, who was beaten up by the villagers for his act during a special class. Mr. Rajesh, biology teacher, was suspended from the services on February 1. The police led by Circle Inspector Naveen Narasimha Murthy on Sunday confirmed to The Hindu that Mr. Rajesh had been absconding and a search operation had begun. They said Mr. Rajesh lived in Kruthivennu along with his family. Mr. Rajesh is native of Gurudu village near Machilipatnam. The police questioned the parents of the accused but they could not provide any clue about his whereabouts. On February 1, the police registered a case against Mr. Rajesh under Sector 7 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s father. The act attracts imprisonment of three years which may extend to five years.

Expressing deep sense of shock, The AIDWA, AP, is planning to fight for the victim. “It is sad to hear about the incident reported in Krishna district. We will fight for the victim and ensure the accused will not escape from punishment as per the law,” AIDWA AP State secretary D. Ramadevi said over phone.
