January 06, 2016 04:01 pm | Updated September 22, 2016 10:26 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

City Congress President and former MLA Malladi Vishnu appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is probing the spurious liquor case, at Krishnalanka police station here on Wednesday.

A large number of Mr. Vishnu’s followers accompanied him to the police station but no one was allowed inside for security reasons.

The SIT team questioned Mr. Vishnu’s links with Swarna Bar and Restaurant where the incident took place on December 7. Five persons died and over 20 hospitalized after they consumed liquor suspected to be contaminated with some poisonous substance.

It may be recalled that Mr. Vishnu’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court here on January 4. He did not respond to a notice issued to him earlier under Sec. 41-A of Code of Criminal Procedure.

Some of his family members were questioned in the wake of the incident.

Speaking to media persons ahead of appearing before the SIT, Mr. Vishnu said mixing of the hazardous chemical could be an act of sabotage and that a detailed investigation would expose the people behind it.

He asserted that he would reveal whatever was in his knowledge to the SIT.
