The Statewide counselling for recruitment of DSC-2008 candidates in Andhra Pradesh began on a jarring note when protesters manhandled District Education Officer Movva Ramalingam at the Collectorate here on Wednesday. After jostling with the protesters, who were agitating in support of different demands, the DEO ran for safety much to the surprise of the onlookers.
DSC 2008 candidates too gathered at the Collectorate demanding revision of the list of selected candidates after dropping the graduate teachers who were already selected. They too chased the DEO adding to the confusion.
As soon the DEO came out of the chambers of the collector after attending a meeting, the protesters stormed the corridor and hounded him. Despite the presence of the police, the protesters manhandled the officer and abused him. Mr. Ramalingam wriggled himself out of their clutches and ran towards his office, which was 200 meters away. Police threw a ring around him preventing the protesters from reaching him again.
Transfer of teacher
Teachers' organisations and Dalit organisations have been at war with Mr. Ramalingam for some time over transfer of a teacher and over counselling. A teacher, Saibaba, who was transferred from Medak under GO 610 was demanding posting at Kurnool while he was offered a job at C. Belagal, 40 km from here.
Dalit organisations took up his cause and protested with the DEO.
