The condition of Telegu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu worsened further today as he refused to consume even any liquid, on the sixth day of his indefinite hunger strike seeking justice for farmers.
At one point, Mr. Naidu closed his room door from inside and did not let anyone venture inside. His wife Bhuvaneswari, family members and senior leaders of TDP tried to persuade Mr. Naidu to take some fluids but to no avail.
A six—member team of expert doctors from NIMS is constantly monitoring the leader of the opposition.
Doctors then wanted to shift the Leader of Opposition to the Intensive Care Unit, but he resisted that attempt as well.
“We are now trying to convert the same room into an ICU,” doctors at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences said.
Mr. Naidu’s nephews and film stars NTR (Junior) and Kalyan Ram visited him in the hospital today and pleaded with him to give up the fast in view of his health condition.
“But he refused to heed. He looked very weak,” they said.
They strongly denounced the Congress government’s indifferent attitude and said it should immediately take steps to resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, TDP and Left parties gathered around the district Collectorates in the state demanding that the government concede the demands raised by Mr. Naidu and rescue the distressed farmers.
Former Home Minister T. Devender Goud and CPI state Secretary K. Narayana led the siege at the Ranga Reddy district Collector’s office here. They were taken into preventive custody along with scores of party workers.
Information Technology professionals took out a march from KBR Park to NIMS in solidarity with Chandrababu Naidu.
Thousands of farmers, people and TDP workers came to NIMS from different districts to see Mr. Naidu but were prevented from going inside the hospital block.
Mr. Naidu is on an indefinite hunger strike in protest against the “inadequate” relief package announced by the state government for farmers who lost their crop in the recent rains.
