ONGOLE: The singing of Pancharatna Kritis en masse was the highlight during the Tyagaraja Aradhana that concluded on Monday.

The precincts of the Tyagaraja Mandiram reverberated with some fine Carnatic music as budding artistes and seasoned singers sang the set of five kritis (songs) composed by the saint-composer, who hailed from the remote Kakarla village in Prakasam district.

The portrait of the saint was brought in a procession from Tyagaraja Kutir to Tyagaraja Mandiram by his admirers, who sang some of the Tyagaraja Kritis to mark the Vardanti of of Kakarla Tyagabrahmam.

Earlier, a music concert by Mandolin Surya and vocalist Swathi from Chennai kept the audience spellbound. They were ably assisted by R. Swathi Sri (violin) and Kishore (Mridangam). In another oncert, vocalist R. Gargeyan won a big round of applause rendering select Tyagaraja Kritis.
