Man covers up wife’s suicide attempt, booked after her death

A man and his mother, who allegedly covered up the suicide attempt of the wife of the former, were booked by the Nuzvid police after the victim died while undergoing treatment in a city hospital, on Tuesday.

According to the Nuzvid police, the suicide victim Md. Shameem, 28, died undergoing treatment at the Sentini Hospital in the city on Monday late night.

Her husband, Sk. John Saidawala, 35, a senior assistant working at Ramanakkapeta, admitted her to a private hospital in Nuzvid on January 24, after she had consumed poison allegedly unable to bear harassment by the husband and mother-in-law Sk. Kasimbi.

Saidawala did not reveal the matter till January 28 and informed the woman’s parents that she needed treatment for illness in Vijayawada and shifted her to the GGH in the city.

She was later shifted to the Sentini Hospital for better treatment.

‘Extra-marital affair’

Shameem’s father Md. Shahabuddin told police in the complaint that minutes before dying, his daughter told his wife that Saidawala had an extra-marital affair.

The duo was booked under Sections 498A and 306 read with 34 of the IPC following a complaint by Mr. Shahabuddin on Tuesday. They were taken into custody.
