March 24, 2011 02:08 am | Updated 02:08 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Income Tax officials raided the residences and other premises of prominent personalities connected with showbiz in Hyderabad and in other cities across the State. Those raided were actors Akkineni Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja, Anushka Shetty and producer Sivaprasada Reddy.

News of the raids did the rounds throughout Wednesday. However, not much information was forthcoming from the department. Simultaneous searches were carried on at residences, offices and other properties in Banjara and Jubilee Hills localities here, apart from some premises in Visakhapatnam.

Sources said the IT sleuths were checking out the advance tax assessment of actors. Mr. Nagarjuna is known to have investments in the entertainment media, restaurants and a convention centre in Madhapur.

Ms. Anushka Shetty is said to have come under the scanner after she bought a house in the Journalist Colony here and purchased land on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Sivaprasad Reddy is known to be a close associate of Mr. Nagarjuna. Mr. Reddy is also producing an untitled film with Mr. Nagarjuna in the lead.
