Municipal Commissioner K. Kanna Babu on Thursday instructed the traders and vegetable vendors to vacate the crumbling P.V.K Naidu Market Complex immediately and shift to Red Tank complex near the RTC Bus Station Complex as the civic body would pull down the structure.
The crumbling market complex in the One Town, PVK Naidu Market Complex, would be pulled down and a new swanky multi level shopping complex would be built in its place, Mr. Kanna Babu said here at a meeting with traders and vegetable vendors.
The Naidu complex has a wholesale vegetable market and kirana shops. It has been a popular shopping area for the citizens for years. The structure, built in 1963 in memory of former Chairman P.V.K. Naidu, has been in a dilapidated condition.
Mr. Kanna Babu who had visited the complex recently said that all amenities would be provided to the vendors and traders at the Red Tank Complex. The complex which was built around ten years ago was left out in the cold. Some traders said that the complex has `vaastu,’ issues and hence, has not been preferred.
The GMC has been mulling over the proposals of pulling down the Naidu complex for years. A report on the structural stability of the building given by the students of V.R Siddhartha Engineering College recently confirmed that the structure was weak and needs to be demolished.
The report was sought by the GMC following the order by a local court to ascertain the stability of the complex, after a petition was filed by some shop owners calling for a restraint order.
