KURNOOL: Flames erupted in an air-conditioned coach of the Gorakhpur-Yeshwanthpur Express between Alampur and Manopadu in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana in the wee hours of Thursday. However, there were no casualties or injuries.

Short-circuiting in an electrical switch box near the toilet in the A1 coach led to flames around 2.20 a.m. Alerted by the passengers, railway officials switched off power in the affected coach and put off the flames.

On the direction of the officials concerned, the train proceeded to Kurnool railway station, about 20 km away. Railway officials inspected the affected coach and replaced it for the 35 passengers travelling in it from Kacheguda. The train proceeded to its destination after a gap of about two hours, according to Railway sub-inspector Jagan.
