Even as the TRS has sought a rout of the Congress party in the upcoming bypolls in Telangana, the latter said on Thursday that it was committed to the formation of the separate State and all stakeholders should support it in finding a solution to the issue.

“Congress is committed to Telangana. We had included the issue in an address delivered by the President. It was mentioned by the Prime Minister in a press conference. We made a positive statement (by Union Home Minister). We tried for consensus on the issue. So, I appeal to all to support Congress,” he told reporters.

Asked about the statement of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao that Congress should be routed in the coming bypolls in Telangana, Mr. Keshav Rao wondered how would the defeat of Congress would contribute to the formation of Telangana State.

The TRS president had said the Congress should be defeated in the coming bypolls to 12 Assembly seats to send a message to the Sri Krishna committee that the whole of Telangana is in favour of a separate State.

Mr. Rao dubbed the visit of TDP leaders to Maharashtra to see the controversial Babli barrage as a “political design”.

Andhra Pradesh should present its case effectively when the all-party delegation meets the Prime Minister over the issue on July 26, he said.

He condemned the remarks of Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamna’ that TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and his party leaders should have been served food in a bowl and treated like prisoners.
