In an indication of growing proximity between Congress and Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah today welcomed the comments of the actor-turned-politician offering to support the ruling party.
“Congress party does not face any danger. Congress is in a stable position. If either Chiranjeevi or someone else are ready to support us, we don’t say no. It is good, of course,” Mr. Rosaiah told reporters in Prakasam district where he was touring.
Mr. Chiranjeevi had reportedly said his party would support the Congress government, if such a situation arose, to ensure that there is no political instability in the State and consequent burden on the people.
The comments of Mr. Chiranjeevi and Mr. Rosaiah, who are said to share a good chemistry, assume significance amid growing speculation that Congress MP Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would float his own party, taking away a sizeable number of MLAs.
Mr. Jagan has been having a cold relationship with the party high command ever since he defied its directive and undertook his controversial ‘Odarpu yatra’.
Congress leadership has taken disciplinary action against two supporters of Mr. Jagan so far for making critical remarks against the party and Mr. Rosaiah.
