VIJAYAWADA: Congress MLC from Railway Koduru B. Chengalrayudu on Wednesday switched loyalties to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The MLC and his followers joined the TDP at party national president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence in Undavalli near here.

Mr. Naidu welcomed him and others into the party fold by presenting yellow scarf. The Chief Minister said no force could stop the TDP if there was unity in the party. The party cadre should take challenges as opportunities and scale new heights, he said.

Referring to the conviction of AIADMK leader Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case, the Chief Minister indirectly referred to YSRCP leader Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and said, “Imagine what could be the punishment for graft cases here. Think whether we need leaders of such repute.

“The guilty cannot escape. The law will take its own course,” he said. Even the apex court expressed concern over accumulation of wealth earned through graft and wrongdoers taking shelter under politics. It was also not a good sign that politicians were losing credibility.

Mr. Chengalrayudu, who has considerable following both in Kadapa and Chittoor districts, said he joined the TDP to ensure development of his constituency and the Rayalaseema region.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao were among those present.
