Against the backdrop of some Telangana supporters making inflammatory statements ahead of the bypolls in the region, election authorities in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday warned of tough action against anyone violating the law.

“We will not tolerate any attempt to disturb peace, harmony and law and order. As per law, we will do what is required to ensure that the elections are free and fair,” State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) I. V. Subba Rao told reporters here.

The CEO said suo motu cases would be registered against those making inflammatory statements in the run-up to the July 27 by-elections.

Some Telangana supporters like students have threatened that they will obstruct the campaign of parties and candidates who are allegedly against Telangana demand.

The CEO held a video-conference with the officials of five districts on the arrangements to be made for the bypolls to 10 Assembly seats in Telangana region. DGP R. R. Girish Kumar was also present on the occasion.

The DGP said in addition to the State police, Central Para-Military Forces would be deployed to ensure that the by-elections are held without any problems on the law and order front.
