The Palamaner police on Saturday nabbed an eight-member gang of chain-snatchers allegedly involved in eleven cases at various places in Chittoor district, and recovered gold jewellery worth ₹6.6 lakh.

Following a series of chain-snatching incidents in Palamaner, Bangarupalem, Kuppam, Tamballapalle and Puttur towns in the district in a month, Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas formed a team to nab the culprits.

The Palamaner police found two persons moving suspiciously at Ambedkar Circle in Palamaner. The interrogation of the duo — R. Venkatesh (45) and Nagamma (37) of Hoskote of Karnataka — led the special party to arrest six more accused temporarily residing in Kuppam. They included three women, all belonging to Hoskote, and Mandya district of Karnataka. All the gang members have been remanded in custody. Further investigation is on.
