45 tolas of gold, 1 kg silver stolen from two houses

Thieves gained entry into two houses at Babametta in the fort town in the wee hours on Sunday and decamped with 45 tolas of gold ornaments, one kilogram silver articles and Rs. 4,000 cash. The thieves entered the houses by removing window grills and bolted from outside the rooms in which the family members were sleeping.

According to police, the thieves took away 15 tolas of gold ornaments from the house of P. Raghuvarma, 30 tolas and a kilogram of silver from the house of Venkata Pydiraju, and Rs. 4,000 cash from a tenant in the house of Raghuvarma. Vizianagaram DSP P.V. Ratnam visited the houses along with dog squads and Clues team. A case was registered in the II Town police station.

Earlier, thieves had decamped with 20 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs. 20,000 cash from the house of Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Raja Kumari at S.V.N. Nagar on February 18. The incident occurred when ZP CEO and other members of the family were asleep.
