120 RTC special buses to run from Tirupati region for summer

Donors may provide buttermilk, water to passengers at bus stations: officials

The Tirupati region of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has introduced 120 special buses with multiple trips to help clear summer rush on the inter-state and long distance routes, covering Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Amaravati and other prominent places in the State.

The APSRTC executive director (Nellore) G. Venkateswara Rao and regional manager (Tirupati) T. Changal Reddy, who had conducted a two-day inspection at Kuppam, said in addition to the special buses, the corporation also introduced regular inter-State weekend services for the convenience of Tirumala pilgrims and general commuters. In view of the public demand, a new service between Tirupati and Coimbatore was introduced and it received good response. Nine new buses were added to the fleet of the region.

The officials said that due to public representations and based on ground needs, some services in Kuppam depot were subjected to minor shuffles and changes, but all 100 buses were operational. An additional service was introduced between Tirumala and Hosur (Tamil Nadu).

ORS sachets

The APSRTC in coordination with the District Medical and Health Department supplied about 25,000 ORS packets and safe drinking water to bus passengers all over the Tirupati region since April. The officials appealed to donors and public groups to initiate distribution of buttermilk and water to commuters at their respective bus stations.

A proposal to introduce digital duty charts was under consideration, the officials maintained.
