The police organised Aksharabhyasam, or initiation of children into the world of letters, for Adivasi Kolam school dropouts and other students at the famous Gnana Saraswati temple at Basar town in Adilabad district on Sunday.

It is perhaps for the first time ever that Adivasi students underwent such an exercise. As many as 24 girl and 23 boys from different Kolam hamlets of Khanapur mandal participated in the programme.

The Aksharabhyasam was undertaken as part of the ‘Police Janamythri’ programme to help underprivileged Adivasis with their education.

Adilabad Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal had lunch with the students and their parents who had been brought to Basar for the programme.
