Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai indicated on Thursday afternoon that the AIADMK will not back the no-trust motion against the government.

He said the TDP, the YSRCP and the Congress had not approached the AIADMK.

Besides, his party would prefer to wait till the completion of the time frame of six weeks set by the Supreme Court to the Centre for framing a scheme as part of the implementation of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. “Still, two more weeks are left,” he said.

Asked what the party would do after two weeks in the event of the Central government not carrying out the directions of the Supreme Court, he said it would be for the party leadership and Chief Minister [Edappadi K. Palaniswami] to decide then.

“As of now, the party’s position is to keep pressing the Centre for the formation of the Cauvery Management Board,” he said, pointing to the resolution adopted by the Assembly on Thursday.
