The Congress on Friday termed BJP veteran L. K. Advani’s comments in a blog post as a “stinging indictment” of the politics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
“Any one who criticises or opposes the BJP government is not anti-national,” says Mr. L. K. Advani. It is an indictment of Mr. Modi and his government,” tweeted former Union Minister P. Chidambaram.
Addressing a press conference, Congress communications chief Randeep Surjewala said that Mr. Advani had “exposed” both Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah who regularly hurl abuses and vitriol at their political opponents.
He said the Modi-Shah duo were “habitual offenders” in labelling every political opponent as anti-national and Pakistani agents.
‘Political guru’
“Modiji’s political guru, Shri L. K. Advani in a stinging indictment to demeaning politics of Modi-Shah duo, founded on hurling abuses on political opponents, has exposed Modi-Shah’s duplicity and hypocrisy,” he said.
“While we politically disagree with many of Shri Advani’s views, his deceiving disciples, Modi-Shah, have unashamedly refused to even acknowledge the stinging indictment of their arrogant working style.” On Thursday, Mr. Advani wrote in a blog post that the BJP had never regarded those who disagreed with it politically as “enemies” but only as adversaries.
His post comes at a time when the BJP’s top leadership has been accusing the Congress leaders of being “pro-Pakistan and anti-nationals who demand proof” of the Balakot air strikes. Making a counter allegation against Mr. Modi of belittling the armed forces, the Congress played out an old video clip where Mr. Modi was seen telling an audience that “a trader had more courage than a soldier” because of his risk taking abilities.
“Will PM Modi and the BJP now tell whether it was an insult to Army or justice being delivered,” he asked. Former minister Kapil Sibal also took to Twitter to attack the BJP. “Advani: Never regarded those who disagreed with us politically as enemies or anti-national, only adversaries. Under Modi ji BJP’s thought processes have been both changed and maimed. Listen Modi ji to one who helped you in your journey to Delhi,” he said.
