The CPI (M) on Sunday said party veteran Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will remain as Chief Minister of West Bengal setting at rest the speculations that he will be replaced and asserted that a leadership change was not on its “agenda.”
The CPI(M)’s politbureau member Sitaram Yechury said Mr. Bhattacharjee would continue in his post and dismissed as “speculation” media reports that he was quitting and a change in the Left Front-ruled State was on the cards.
“There is no such thinking. There is nothing like this on the agenda” Mr. Yechury told reporters in Kolkata.
“This is speculation by media. He was sick and had taken off for recuperation. He has already resumed his official work,” Mr. Yechury told PTI from Guwahati.
Due to illness Mr. Bhattacharjee had skipped party’s Politbureau meeting and also a meeting of Chief Ministers convened by the Prime Minister that led to the speculations.
