The family members of Yakub Memon, who is on death row for the 1993 Mumbai blasts, visited him in the Nagpur central jail on Thursday, perhaps to see him one last time.
Yakub Memon’s wife Ruheen Memon and her two sisters, his daughter Zubeda and another relative Iqbal Memon arrived here at 9 a.m. by the Duranto Express.
Trying hard to dodge mediapersons, Yakub’s family members entered the high-security prison at 11 a.m. and spent around 45 minutes with him. Yakub reportedly broke down on seeing his daughter and his wife tried to console him, sources told The Hindu .
Yakub’s family members left the jail in a private vehicle and were scheduled to return to Mumbai by a late evening train.
As the execution of his death sentence is scheduled for July 30, the Nagpur police have turned the central prison into a fortress. Barricades have been put up at the front gate to stop mediapersons.
