Will look into Bar exam issue: Moily

June 22, 2010 03:01 am | Updated 03:01 am IST - New Delhi:

Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Monday assured final-year law students that the government would go into their opposition to the proposal for an all-India Bar examination for fresh graduates before they take up practice in courts.

According to Siddharth S. Seth, president of the National Delegation of Law Students, his delegation presented a document to the Minister demanding that the examination be not conducted this December.

The delegation termed the Bar Council of India's decision hasty, demoralising and unplanned.

The Minister was told that “… consensus should be formed before implementing any such important decision which will affect lakhs of law students across the country.”

According to Mr. Seth, the Minister, during the hour-long meeting, expressed his concern over the problems being faced by students graduating this June. He assured the delegation that soon an in-depth study would be conducted into their submission and appropriate action taken, taking care of the interest of the profession and law students.
