This is a punishment posting, says Anand Rai

Indore doctor Anand Rai, a whistleblower who exposed the Vyapam recruitment scam in Madhya Pradesh, has been shunted to a tribal district by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government days after he lodged a complaint against a senior BJP leader.

Mr. Rai has been transferred to Dhar, which is the home turf of senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Vikram Verma, against whom Mr. Rai acted.

Mr. Verma’s wife Neena Verma is the MLA from Dhar.

In his complaint to the CBI on July 17, Mr. Rai alleged that the BJP leader used his power and influence to get his daughter — who was pursuing MBBS in a college in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad — transferred to the Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal. There is a clear cause and effect link between the complaint and the transfer, Mr. Rai claimed.

“This is a punishment posting. First, they suspend my wife [a gynaecologist] for seeking maternity leave, and last month they transferred her to Ujjain. Now they want to torture us by transferring me,” said Mr. Rai, father of a young child. “This clearly shows the ground situation of the Whistleblowers Protection Act,” Mr. Rai told The Hindu .
