Just when things were expected to get better for web-based cab aggregators operating in the national capital region, a woman was allegedly molested aboard an Uber cab near Gurgaon late Saturday evening.

The victim's brother lambasted the US-based cab aggregator on Facebook for not being able to rein its drivers, sharing an automated acknowledgement of his sister's complaint by Uber India on Sunday.

Details pertaining to their identities are deliberately being withheld given the nature of the complaint made against the Uber driver, identified as one Vinod.

The driver is accused of having picked up the complainant from Delhi before driving her to Gurgaon, where he allegedly attempted to kiss her.

Uber replied to the Facebook post, saying, “Our team immediately reached out to the rider via phone within minutes of receiving the feedback. Multiple members of the Uber team have spoken with the driver to ascertain the sequence of events. Uber has a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour and immediate action has already been taken with the driver partner even while the matter is being thoroughly investigated. In order to protect the privacy of parties involved, we will continue to handle this matter directly with the concerned parties.”

“As discussed with the rider on the phone and email, our team is ready to assist further in any way we can,” the reply added.

When contacted, the public relations agency handling Uber's account said the cab aggregator has given a “detailed response” on the Facebook page.
