Two Jet Airways employees, part of the cabin crew, have been injured in the twin bomb blasts at the Brussels airport on Tuesday morning. The two, identified as Nidhi Chaphekar and Amit Motwani by Jet officials, are residents of Mumbai and are believed to have been at the airport to report for work when the blasts occurred.
Jet Airways, however, did not respond to repeated calls to confirm the identity of the staff. In a statement, it only said two of its employees have been injured and hospitalised. Jet officials familiar with the development said one of the employees has received injury on the eyes while the other has got minor injuries. But it could not be verified from the airline. The families of the injured staff who stay in Western Suburbs could not be reached for comment.
At the time of the blasts, four of Jet’s Airbus A300 aircraft, one each from Newark, Toronto, Mumbai and Delhi, were at the Brussels airport. But all passengers and crew on board were reported safe.
Jet operates a daily flight from Mumbai to Newark and another flight from Delhi to Toronto with stopovers at Brussels. Passengers remained stranded for several hours inside the aircraft as the airport was closed as a precautionary measure and due to the confusion prevailing there.
The blasts occurred just five days before Jet Airways is to pull out of Brussels. From March 27, airline will relocate its European operations to Amsterdam.
