A Delhi court on Saturday remanded a suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist to 14 days’ judicial custody in connection with the Batla House encounter case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Surya Malik Grover sent accused Shahzad to jail till February 20 after the Crime Branch submitted that his custodial interrogation was not required in the case any more.
Meanwhile, the Special Cell of Delhi Police, which is probing the September 13 Delhi serial blasts, sought permission from the court to arrest Shahzad in connection with that case.
Now, the accused will be produced before another court in Tis Hazari in connection with the blast cases.
Earlier, the court had remanded Shahzad, who was arrested from Azamgarh on February 1 by Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad, to three days police custody for his interrogation in connection with the Batla House encounter case.
The Crime Branch is investigating the Batla House encounter of September 19, 2008, which took place a week after the serial blasts here which claimed 26 lives.
Police had claimed that Shahzad and Junaid, who were allegedly involved in the serial blasts, had escaped from Batla House during the encounter which took place after a police team arrived there acting on a tip-off.
The Crime Branch plea for a Test Identification Parade of Shahzad was refused by his lawyer.
Shahzad refused to undergo TIP on the ground that he had been photographed in Lucknow and his identity had already been revealed to the media and public.
