Subrangshu Roy remanded in judicial custody

Subrangshu Roy, Trinamool Congress candidate from Bijpur in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, who was arrested at Naihati on Sunday, was on Monday remanded in judicial custody for a day after a local court rejected his bail plea.

Mr. Roy, son of Minister of State for Shipping and All-India general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, Mukul Roy, was produced in a court in Barrackpore which directed the police to submit the case dairy before it on Tuesday.

He had been absconding after the Election Commission (EC) ordered his arrest for allegedly assaulting EC officials on April 12. An arrest warrant had been issued in his name after the EC filed an FIR.

The Trinamool Congress has alleged that Mr. Roy was falsely implicated.
