Here is some good news for the users of Skype, a software application that allows voice calls over the Internet.
Belkin, which provides interconnectivity solutions across computing and consumer electronic devices, has launched a desktop and a Wi-Fi phone pre-loaded with Skype, providing users the ease of making cheaper Internet calls without turning their computers on.
The cordless Wi-Fi phone will work at all hotspots (that allows Internet access over wireless local area network), while through desktop phone Skype users can make unlimited free calls. Both Belkin Skype phones will be available at all leading electronic stores and priced between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 10,000. To woo buyers, Belkin will provide users 30 Skype Out minutes and one month of free voice mail to a few users.
Belkin’s Skype desktop Internet phone, which features simple set-up, easy-to-use interface and auto login, will allow users to make unlimited free calls to other Skype users. However, calls from mobile and landline phones can also be made by paying some charges.
Similarly, Belkin Skype Wi-Fi phone eliminates the need for a personal computer and will work with almost any Wi-Fi network without browser-based authentication. With pre-loaded Skype software, it is a plug-n-play device. The on-screen colour menu allows users to locate a contact and view their online status. Like any mobile handset, it features call history, clock and auto-list import.
Belkin Skype phone will also allow 500 Skype and Skype Out contacts in the contact list along with call hold/release, call pickup/park, muting, redial and call-timer display. The special TFT screen offers exceptional clarity.
