With the search for the missing Coast Guard Dornier aircraft making no headway, more ships are expected to join the search and rescue operations.

The German-designed aircraft made by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited attached to 744 Fixed Wing Squadron of the Coast Guard took off from the Air Station at Meenambakkam at 6.05 p.m. on Monday. The aircraft completed its mission in the south Tamil Nadu coast and Palk Bay before it went missing at 9.23 p.m. from the radars at the Chennai and Tiruchirapalli airports.

“We have got no input so far about the missing aircraft,” Inspector General S.P. Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard (East) said.

“There are no concrete signals [from the Dornier plane] from the coastal areas [of Tamil Nadu],” he said.
