The Supreme Court is likely to deliver the much-awaited verdict in the disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala and two others on Tuesday.

The matter is posted at Court No. 6 at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court on last Monday told the Karnataka government to wait for just another week for the judgment on its appeals against the acquittal of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case.

A Bench of Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Amitava Roy had reserved the appeals for judgment in June last year after 20 days of arguments. The hearing had started on February 23 last.

The Bench had issued notice in July 2015 on the appeals against acquittal by the Karnataka High Court on May 11, 2015. It had sought the responses of Ms. Jayalalithaa and co-accused N. Sasikala, J. Elavarasi and V.N. Sudhakaran before taking a hiatus to study the records of the litigation held over nearly two decades.

The SC’s judgment, when delivered, would mean closure to the wealth case haunting Tamil Nadu politics.

The verdict is likely to set in motion another round of political development in the State where both Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Ms. Sasikala are fighting to stake claim of the government.
