Pakistan violates ceasefire, targets 6 Indian posts

In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistan troops on Sunday opened heavy fire on six Indian Forward posts along the LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, the fifth incident this month.

“Pakistan troops opened indiscriminate and heavy fire on 5-6 Indian Posts along the Line of Control in Krishnagati sub-sector, 210 km from here, at around 09:05 hours,” Brigadier General Staff (BGS), 16 Corps, Brig Gurdeep Singh told PTI.

Indian troops retaliated resulting in heavy exchanges till 11:30 hours, he said, adding that there was no causality on this side.

“It is a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops”, Brig Singh said, adding that firing from Pakistani side is continuing intermittently.

Pakistani troops targeted Forward Defence Locations (FDLs) of Kranti, Chajja One, Gorda, Kripan, Balnoie and Mankote in Krishnagati sub-sector. They also used medium machines guns and fired mortars on Indian positions, defence sources said.

This is the fifth incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir this month.

On May 1, there was ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Krishnagati belt of Poonch sector when they fired on 4 Indian posts.

It was followed by ceasefire violation along International Border (IB) in Ballard post in Samba sector, where Pakistani Rangers fired on Indian border outposts.

It was followed by a ceasefire violation along IB in Abdullaian BOP in Jammu sector when Pakistani Rangers fired on the Indian BOP and blew up border fencing on May 12.

On May 18, two jawans were killed and three injured in cross-border firing by Pakistan.

In Islamabad, the military today claimed that a Pakistani soldier was killed in the firing and demanded an immediate flag meeting to discuss the issue.
