Opposition to Modi's Silicon Valley visit questioned

A group of public figures have issued a statement in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after academics in that country had opposed his visit to Silicon Valley as part of his trip to the United States later in September.

Activist Madhu Kishwar, who was part of the group which issued the statement (signed by 120 people from India and abroad), said that she felt compelled to respond to academics asking Silicon Valley entrepreneurs not to entertain the Prime Minister since she felt “this economic boycott of the country was uncalled for.” Last month around 100 academics in the U.S. issued a statement to Silicon Valley technology companies to ignore Mr. Modi’s visit over his ‘rights record.’
