November 05, 2010 12:41 am | Updated October 22, 2016 10:16 am IST - MUMBAI:

Eight medical teams — each comprising a surgeon, a physician and an anaesthetist from the government-run J.J. Hospital — have been put on standby for U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to Mumbai on Saturday.

Hospital authorities said the teams would also include 12 resident medical officers (RMOs), who would be among the food tasters for Mr. Obama.

“There is a standard protocol for all the dignitaries and VIPs who come, about tasting food, providing services and preparing for eventualities. A VVIP room has also been readied.

“While J.J. is the main hospital [for handling medical exigencies], the government has also kept two private hospitals on standby,” Rekha Daver, acting dean of J.J. Hospital, told The Hindu .

Two cardiac ambulances will be on duty during Mr. Obama's stay in the city.
