The former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran was not truthful in sharing information during his questioning in connection with the alleged installation of an illegal telephone exchange, according to the CBI.
Last week, Mr. Maran was questioned for three consecutive days and has now been asked to produce certain documents pertaining to the case. He may be summoned again to join investigations.
“He was evasive on many points and was not truthful. We are verifying his statements,” said a senior CBI official.
The former Union Minister had last week told the media that the RTI replies from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India established that he had only one connection and not 300 connections as claimed by the agency.
“Based on some RTI document, he has claimed that he had only one connection, which is not true. In fact, investigations have revealed that he had one pilot connection under which over 770 lines were being used illegally at his three residences in Delhi and Chennai. This caused a loss of at least Rs.1.8 crore to BSNL,” said the officer.
