As the frantic search for the missing Indian Air Force’s An-32 transport plane enters its third day, the parents of Flight Lieutenant Kunal Barpatte, who was navigating the aircraft, have expressed grave disappointment at the Centre and the defence establishment for their delay in communicating with the kin of the missing.

Assailed by anxiety, Rajendra Barpatte, a retired scientist, railed against the inferior quality of airplanes and expressed dissatisfaction at the way the search was being conducted.

No calls

“When the news broke, no one from the Centre or the State government bothered to call, neither did anyone from the IAF. Our enquiries were met with evasive bureaucratic replies. It was only after my brother-in-law tweeted Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar late Saturday evening that cognizance was taken,” Mr. Barpatte said.
