On Wednesday, India?s national newspaper gave 12-year old Kaajal Dubey a reason to smile. Kaajal became the proud recipient of a brand new Tata Indica Vista, which she won as the grand prize of The Hindu-Hirco Top 5 contest held during the 3rd season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The car key was handed over to little Kajal by Mr. Pawan Bhatnagar, Assistant Vice President, The Hindu, along with Mr. Avdhesh Singh Bhadoria, Branch Manager (Madhya Pradesh), The Hindu . Ambrish Sharma, Senior Manager, Tata Motors and Ashutosh Mishra were also present for the occasion.
The contest, which began on March 10, 2010, gave cricket fans an opportunity to predict the top five batsmen and top five bowlers of the tournament, complete a slogan and win prizes ranging from overseas vacations to digital cameras. The grand prize was an Indica Vista from Tata Motors.
The contest received 11,702 entries online and 2000 entries via post. Winners were chosen on the basis of entries that obtained the highest aggregate points at the end of the IPL tournament.
The Hindu gave away more than 800 prizes valued over 27 lakh. The grand prize won by Kajal, an eighth-grade student of a local school, will be registered to Mr. Ajay Dubey, her father, as she is a minor. The main sponsor of the contest is Hirco.
