Christmas greetings from Pratibha, Manmohan

President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday greeted the nation on the eve of Christmas.

In her message, Ms. Patil said: “Let us follow the teachings of Jesus Christ in our daily lives and work for harmony and unity in society and the progress of our country.”

Extending his greetings, Mr. Ansari said: “Jesus assured man that he can reach god through peace, love, compassion and tolerance. These values have the power to transform our lives and bring hope in troubled times. May Christmas fill our lives with peace, love and prosperity.”

Spirit of brotherhood

In his message, Dr. Singh said Christmas is a celebration of the spirit of brotherhood, and an opportunity to spread joy and share happiness.

“The festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ underlines the need to follow the ideals of sacrifice, service, redemption and love and compassion. May the festival usher in peace, prosperity and happiness to all,” the Prime Minister said.

In her greetings, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said: “It is an opportunity to celebrate the noble message of Jesus Christ to propagate the virtue of tolerance, harmony and brotherhood.”

She said, “May the festival inspire us to get rid of the vicious circle of ignorance and violence around us...”
