Centre flays post against Jayalalithaa

August 05, 2014 02:07 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:44 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

India on Monday strongly condemned the article against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa that appeared on the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry website. The issue rocked Parliament with AIADMK members demanding a resolution to denounce it.

“India strongly condemns this. We will definitely summon the High Commissioner of that country,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in the Rajya Sabha.

In the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said, “This is totally unacceptable and condemnable.”

However, in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, when the Opposition tried to raise the issue, Speaker P. Dhanapal cited the apology tendered by Sri Lanka to Ms. Jayalalithaa and said a discussion was not necessary.
