In accordance with the decision of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to conduct a rectification campaign beginning with the polit bureau and the central committee, general secretary Prakash Karat said here on Saturday a report will be presented at its next meeting.

Addressing a press conference on the final day of the three-day meeting of the central committee, Mr. Karat said all polit bureau members submitted their own notes and self appraisals, on the basis of which a report was submitted and discussed at the meeting.

The campaign that has been initiated to strengthen the party and “eliminate our shortcomings and weaknesses” will continue till June, he said.

“The rectification report of the central committee will be submitted in the next meeting, which will serve as the model for state committees and other committees to follow,” Mr. Karat said.

Asked about the proposed disciplinary commission, he said it was listed in the rectification document adopted in the October 2008 meeting of the central committee and it will decide on how to set it up in the next meeting.

The leadership has stressed the need for the campaign in the wake of reports of indiscipline among a section of its members. The reverses in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections prompted the move, which comes at a time when two Left-ruled States — West Bengal and Kerala — are preparing for elections in 2011.
