BJP on Saturday claimed that its stand against the appointment of P. J .Thomas as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) has been vindicated with seven top former heads of institution filing a petition against the appointment in the Supreme Court.

“BJP has been demanding scrapping of appointment of Thomas. Government overruled the opinion of Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj and appointed incumbent Telecom Secretary Thomas as CVC,” BJP national spokesman Ramnath Kovind told reporters here today.

Seven top officers led by former Chief Election Commissioner James Lyngdoh have challenged Mr. Thomas’ appointment saying CVC heads the committee which appoints the CBI director and Mr. Thomas is facing a CBI probe in the Palmolein Oil scam during his tenure as Chief Secretary in Kerala, he said.

Moreover, CBI was also probing the 2G spectrum scam worth Rs. 70,000 crore took place under Mr. Thomas’ tenure in Telecom Ministry, which is headed by A. Raja, he said.

He demanded that the Prime Minister scrap his appointment.

BJP Schedule Caste wing president Dushyant Gautam said the party would oppose the implementation of Rangnath Mishra Commission report which has recommended reservations for Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims.
