A day after he imposed a gag order on four of his party leaders, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah said on Monday that his party’s relationship with its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh did not suffer from internal contradictions.
“RSS is doing its own work, BJP its own and the relationship is as it should be,” Mr. Shah told journalists at the State party headquarters here.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat never said his organisation wanted to change the reservation policy that was enshrined in the Constitution. “The BJP is committed to the existing quota for the OBCs, SCs and STs,” Mr. Shah said.
As for the Dadri lynching and the killing of Kannada writer M.M. Kalburgi that set off a wave of protests by Sahitya Akademi award winners, Mr. Shah said they were both State issues and questions about them must be directed to the respective States.
“The Kalburgi killing happened in Congress-ruled Karnataka, while Dadri happened in U.P. where the Samajwadi Party is in power. Law and order is a State subject,” he said.
