Advani calls up Chidambaram

September 19, 2010 10:56 pm | Updated November 03, 2016 03:04 am IST - New Delhi:

BJP Parliamentary Party chief L.K. Advani called up Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Sunday to discuss the firing outside the Jama Masjid in which two foreign tourists were injured, and enquired about the steps being taken to handle the situation.

Sources close to Mr. Advani said Mr. Chidambaram told him that investigations were on but they were yet to arrive at any “theory” about who could be involved.

Indian Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack in an e-mail to several news organisations. Motorcycle-borne assailants had fired several rounds at a vehicle carrying foreign tourists, injuring two Taiwanese.

Mr. Chidambaram told Advani that the Union government was not taking any chances and both Delhi and Mumbai had been alerted after the attack.

Uttarakhand situation

Mr. Advani also discussed the grave situation in Uttarakhand arising out of the incessant rains. “He demanded that the disaster management authorities be alerted and all necessary steps taken,” a source said. The senior BJP leader had also talked to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in this regard.
