September 11, 2014 12:19 am | Updated November 17, 2021 01:27 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The 2G spectrum allocation scam case has reached the penultimate stage with the conclusion of recording of the evidence of prosecution and defence witnesses; about three years after a special court for the CBI cases here began trial.

Special Judge O.P. Saini, tasked by the Supreme Court to try the case exclusively, closed the recording of evidence on Wednesday on wrapping of defence witnesses’ evidence.

The evidence of 153 prosecution witnesses, including that of the chairman of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani and corporate lobbyist Nira Radia, and 29 defence witnesses’ evidence were recorded by the court during the trial. The Ambani couple turned hostile in the case.

However, the prosecution may examine more witnesses to prove the case if the court allows its application for summoning more witnesses, including Rajeshwar Singh, Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate, Delhi Circle.

Later, the judge fixed November 10 as the date for beginning the final argument in the case.
