The J&K police have identified 24 local militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen involved in the abduction and killing of three policemen in south Kashmir’s Shopian two days ago.

According to the police report, part of the first information report (FIR) lodged in the case, the 24 armed men entered the houses of the policemen at Batagund and Kaprin in Shopian “at the behest of Hizb commander Riyaz Naikoo.”

“The intent was to kill. It was done to intimidate the police personnel and their family members, so as to keep them away from their duties,” according to the FIR.

Policeman-turned-militant Syed Naveed from Shopian was also named in the FIR.

The militants on September 21 kidnapped the three policemen and a brother of another. In an hour, they shot the three dead but freed the civilian.
