December 30, 2011 02:08 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:58 pm IST - BEIJING:

Twelve of the 22 Indian diamond traders, detained in China on the charge of smuggling, will be deported in a week following a court order. “The 12 [traders] will be sent back home in about a week's time, depending on the availability of seats on the flights,” Indramani Pandey, head of the Indian Consulate in Guangzhou, told PTI on the phone.

Most of the legal formalities for their release and deportation were completed.

On December 7, the Shenzen Intermediate People's Court, which heard the case, ordered their deportation, while awarding others prison terms, ranging from three-and-a-half years to six years.
