Eleven policemen, including two station house officers, were suspended and a Deputy Superintendent of Police was served show-cause notice on Monday for sending a minor, who refused to give them free vegetables, to jail.

The action came after a three-member inquiry team headed by Inspector General of Police, Patna, Nayyar Husnain Khan, submitted its report to the police headquarters on Saturday. The team was constituted on the orders of the Chief Minister after the boy’s father wrote to him. “There are several discrepancies in the FIR lodged against the boy,” Mr. Khan told journalists. “I think there are areas that need deeper investigation and I’ve asked the Patna SSP to submit a supervision report in three days’ time.”

Meanwhile, instructions have been given to shift the boy from Beur Central jail to a juvenile remand home, an officer said. “Once the SSP submits his report, a decision on releasing him will be taken,” he said.
