Indian National Lok Dal chief and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala is no stranger to controversy. Even after the Delhi High Court issued notice to the CBI for failing to inform the court about Mr. Chautala addressing a public meeting in Jind on September 25 while out on bail for health reasons, he launched the party’s Assembly election campaign on Friday by addressing another public meeting in his constituency of Uchhana Kalan.
He arrived in a green bus early in the morning and enthusiastic party workers gave him a warm welcome.
The High Court will hear the CBI plea on October 9 when the court re-opens after a break.
The campaign is in full swing in Haryana and Mr. Chautala’s grandson Dushyant Chautala and his younger son Abhay Chautala have made it clear that notwithstanding the court notice to the CBI on his conduct, the INLD chief will campaign in other parts of the State too. A Gurgaon advocate Hemant Sharma had petitioned the court after Mr. Chautala attended the rally on September 25, saying the INLD leader was misleading the court by pretending to be ailing.
Convicted in scamBoth Mr. Chautala and his elder son Ajay Chautala were sentenced to imprisonment after conviction in the teacher recruitment scam case. Mr. Chautala was granted bail on health grounds and he has since been in Medanta hospital in Gurgaon. However, on the birth anniversary of INLD founder Devi Lal, Mr. Chautala addressed a massive public meeting in Jind where leaders from the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Janata Dal (United) were present.
