Karnataka crisis: CM to seek postponement of monsoon legislature session
With the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government on the brink of collapse following the resignation of 12 MLAs on Saturday, Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is likely to convene an emergency meeting of the Cabinet on Monday. The Cabinet is expected to send a resolution to Governor Vajubhai Vala, seeking postponement of the monsoon session of the legislature that is scheduled to begin on July 12.
UAE Foreign minister arrives in India; energy, trade high on agenda of visit
United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in New Delhi on July 7 night and will hold talks with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar to boost cooperation in key sectors such as trade and energy. The UAE minister will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and participate in a business roundtable on June 8.
Triple talaq bill in a cliffhanger in Rajya Sabha
With the arithmetic in Rajya Sabha slowly shifting in favour of the ruling NDA alliance, voting on the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2019, popularly known as the triple talaq bill, is expected to go down to the wire.
The legislation was introduced in Lok Sabha on June 21 and the government is keen on passing it in both Houses in this very session. It was the first legislation introduced by the Modi government in its second term.
Budget 2019: Defence allocation disappoints military
There is disappointment in the military and industry over the defence allocation in the Union Budget. There are also questions on the overall military modernisation and the big-ticket deals lined up for conclusion this year as there are no resources left for new procurements.
“The capital expenditure allocated for the Navy and the Indian Air Force (IAF) does not meet their committed liabilities this year. Services had taken up the matter with the Defence Ministry after the interim Budget,” a defence source said on condition of anonymity.

Jesus scored the decisive goal after a penalty from Peru captain Paolo Guerrero canceled out Everton's opener for hosts Brazil at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium. A last minute penalty from substitute Richarlison sealed a win for Brazil which handed the South American giants their ninth Copa triumph and first since 2007.
