UIDAI to obtain biometrics of 30 lakh NRC applicants

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will record biometric data including the fingerprints and iris scans of about 30 lakh applicants who have sought to be included in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) after having been excluded from the final draft published last year.

U.S. journalist covering Sterlite issue deported

Mark Scialla, a U.S.-based freelance journalist, who was covering the Sterlite issue in Thoothukudi after coming to India on a tourist visa, was deported on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha said he issued a ‘Leave India Notice’ in his capacity as the Foreigner Registration Officer of the district.
