BJP appoints campaign managers for 17 States

BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday made large scale appointments of poll managers for various States in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The most significant was the appointment of former Gujarat minister and sometime dissident against Prime Minister Modi, Govardhan Zadaphia, as in charge of Uttar Pradesh.

Gauri, Pansare kin to oppose CBI probe

The families of Gauri Lankesh and Govind Pansare, activists killed in Karnataka and Maharashtra, allegedly by right wing groups, are set to oppose any move to hand over probe into their deaths to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Miners struggle while PM struts on Bogibeel bridge, says Rahul

The uncertain fate of 15 coal miners trapped for nearly two weeks in a flooded coal mine in Meghalaya led to a spat between Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the junior Minister for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, on Wednesday. Mr. Gandhi requested the Prime Minister to “save the miners”.

TV services will not be affected, says TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday clarified that customers will not face any disruption of their TV services due to implementation of its new regulatory framework for broadcasting and cable services. The new framework allows consumers to select and pay only for the channels they wish to view, and requires the TV broadcasters to disclose maximum retail price of channels individually as well as of bouquets.

AIADMK-BJP electoral alliance in the offing?

There has been a lot of buzz about the AIADMK and the BJP inching ever closer to an electoral pact. Wednesday saw two meetings between senior dignitaries of the two parties. In Chennai, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. In New Delhi, two Ministers – P. Thangamani and S.P. Velumani – met Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, regarded as the Centre’s point person for matters concerning Tamil Nadu.

State govt. to give ‘high quality’ treatment to HIV-infected woman

Terming the transfusion of HIV-infected blood to a pregnant woman at the Sattur Government Hospital ‘regrettable’, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan said that “exclusive and high quality treatment” would be provided to the victim at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
